Update – Changes to parking near the Mimico GO Station

I’ve heard from many local residents, business owners, and GO Transit users with concerns about the lack of available parking and the difficulties businesses face with loading access for larger vehicles in the area. Additionally, GO Transit users have been penalized with tickets and fines while trying to use public transit and support greener commuting options, which adds frustration to an already challenging situation.

Previously, new developments planned for this area included additional off-street parking – an extra 300 spaces specifically for GO Transit patrons. Unfortunately, with the developer now in receivership, the future of that development is uncertain.

I’ve been working closely with City staff to identify solutions to these concerns. I’m happy to share that we have successfully amended parking bylaws for the area north of the Mimico GO Station (bordered by Portland Street, Royal York Road, the rail line, and Audley Street). These changes aim to mitigate conflicts and create a better balance for everyone in the community.

At this time, we anticipate a report from staff to come to Etobicoke York Community Council (EYCC) on October 28th to support the changes in the parking rules in the area by designating the area as a Green P Mobile Pay Zone. With Green P Mobile Pay, it’s easier than ever to find and pay for parking using your mobile device. You can use the Green P app or a mobile browser to pay for parking at on-street locations and non-gated lots. The rate for parking in this area is proposed to be a set fee for 12 hours.

There are two ways you can engage with this item at EYCC:

  • Making a Deputation: You may choose to attend the Community Council meeting and share your opinions and feedback directly with Council members. This is a valuable opportunity to voice your perspective and make an impact on the decision-making process. You can choose to depute in-person or online.
  • Submitting Comments: If you prefer not to speak at the meeting, you can still contribute by submitting your comments by email.

Once the agenda is live (usually a week before the meeting date), you can register to speak or submit your comments by email to [email protected].
