The City is starting urgent repairs to five bridges along or over the Gardiner. This work is scheduled to take place from March 2025 (this month) to December 2026.
While full rehabilitation for this section is scheduled to start in 2027, condition assessments have identified these five bridges as requiring repairs immediately.

March – November 2025
1. Lane Reductions on Kipling Bridge + Islington Bridge
- Lanes on Kipling Ave + Islington Ave over the Gardiner will be reduced from six to four lanes.
- There will be occasional temporary overnight lane and ramp closures on the Gardiner beneath Kipling Ave and Islington Ave.
2. Lane Reduction (W) or Narrowing (E) on the Gardiner
Grand Ave to east of Park Lawn Rd
- Westbound lanes reduced from four to three lanes.
- Eastbound lane narrowing (no lane closures).
3. Lane Reductions on Park Lawn
- Lane reductions on Park Lawn Road will occur in one direction at a time for approximately two months each.
November 2025 – May 2026
1. Lane Reduction (W) or Narrowing (E) on the Gardiner
Grand Ave to east of Park Lawn Rd
- Westbound lanes reduced from four to three lanes.
- Eastbound lane narrowing (no lane closures).
2. Lane Reductions on Park Lawn
- Lane reductions on Park Lawn Road will occur in one direction at a time for approximately two months each.
3. On-Ramp Closure Westbound from Park Lawn
- The on-ramp closure is scheduled after the Cirque du Soleil season has ended.
- The lane reductions on Park Lawn Rd will not occur at the same time as the westbound on-ramp closure.
May – July 2026
FIFA World Cup Construction Pause
- To accommodate increased traffic during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, there will be no lane reductions or closures in the construction area during this period.
July – December 2026
1. Lane Narrowing (E) on the Gardiner
Grand Ave to east of Park Lawn Rd
- Eastbound lane narrowing (no lane closures).
2. Lane Reductions on Park Lawn
- Lane reductions on Park Lawn Road will occur in one direction at a time for approximately two months each.
