Resident Submits Request

You can submit your request for speed bumps, speed humps and speed cushions directly to our office via email. Please include the following information in your email:

• Where do you want speed humps?
• What specific stretch of roadway & between which cross streets?
• Detail the issue that you're seeing?
• Any photos you can include are helpful?
• Any initial demonstration of local area-resident support?
• Have you collected a petition of local roadway residents* 
  

*This helps up gauge initial sense of support to fast-track the process.

Feasibility Is Determined

Our office will review the technical feasibility of the request, opportunities for broadening scope for a larger stretch of road, if there have been past traffic polls and studies been done (to be relevant, they need to have been conducted in the last two years) and other qualitative criteria and eligibility.

We will share back the information that we've gathered directly with the resident or group of residents regarding feasibility and qualification.

Local Area-Resident Support Is Gauged

If the requested location is eligible for traffic calming, we will create a digital survey and poll the street for area-specific residents to submit feedback. Below you can find past and current surveys. Digital surveys will be live for 30 days and provide residents an opportunity to share their insights and comments digitally. We'll be asking for specific addresses so we can ensure respondents are from the local street being surveyed. Councillor Morley will be looking for at least 50% support of respondents.

Transportation Study Is Conducted

If the results from the survey indicate that the majority of residents on the street are in favour of traffic calming, our office will send a request to Transportation Services to conduct a Traffic Study. We will notify residents of the outcome of the resident survey and share if the request has enough public support to be sent to Transportation Services. Transportation Staff will then conduct a traffic study which includes evaluation, design approval, scoring and prioritization.

Community Council + City Council Votes

Once the study is complete, Transportation Services will issues a report to monthly Etobicoke York Community Council to be voted upon by Community Council members. Community Council is your your opportunity to depute on (speak to) the item. You can submit written remarks once the agenda goes public or appear in front of committee to share verbal remarks (or both). We will notify the residents who shared their perspective through the digital survey that the item is public on the agenda.

Once approved by EYCC, it goes onto City Council for approval.
